Undertaken on behalf of Murrill Construction Ltd for Watford Borough Council, we were delighted to be part of the £750K scheme to redevelop car parking facilities at Cassiobury Park. The Grade 2 listed parks and gardens are also a local nature reserve and have been awarded the coveted Green Flag Award consistently since 2007. As a result this sensitive and high profile site required a flexible and collaborative approach with all stakeholders to ensure the minimum of disruption for the many visitors, events and activities that necessitated ongoing access and use of the park during the 4 month construction programme.

The project involved the re-design of the existing main car park with new surfacing and drainage, and construction of a new car park to replace the existing temporary overflow car park. This involved improved surfacing and boundary treatment to the existing, installation of an innovative new surface water drainage system, hard and soft landscaping, including low level bunding and tree planting.

Challenges for the project included sections of the car park remaining open, engineering levels and ground conditions, access and egress, deep excavation and shuttering for the installation of 1400 Graf Rain Bloc Stormwater Crates & specialised crane lift for a defender chamber in excess of 6 tonne.
